Who We Are

FCS is dedicated to promoting positive environments for children and  families that develop trust, stability and independence.

About For Children’s Sake

For Children’s Sake (FCS) is a private non-profit corporation founded in 1997 and incorporated in Virginia in 2002.  FCS provides a variety of services to adults, families and children in our community, including adult mental health support, therapeutic foster care and pre-adoptive services, supervised visitation, mentoring and outpatient therapy.  We have locations throughout Northern Virginia, and have a culturally diverse staff that is professional and well trained in a number of human services fields.  FCS also believes in giving back to our profession and community and has always provided training to local colleges for students in need of internship practicum experience.

Therapeutic Foster Parents

FCS trains and supports a culturally diverse and professional group of therapeutic foster parents who are all dedicated to the well being of children and families.  They have been the backbone of our agency and are a resource we greatly value.

Guiding Principles
A child’s needs are best met with a caring and loving family. FCS recruits and trains staff and families acknowledging this truth.
We recruit, select and develop families with the following competencies in caring for children: protection and nurturance; meeting developmental needs; supporting primary family needs; connecting children to safe, nurturing relationships that last a lifetime; and serving on a professional team.
We help children and their families at whatever point they may be to get them the best care. This includes collecting as much information as possible about a child during intake to help plan for their child’s care, short- and long-term. This plan begins as soon as a child is referred for placement in our care, and we begin by learning the child’s strengths and needs. We then find resources and programs to help meet the child’s needs and identify the same for the foster families who care for our foster children. These may include, depending on the child and family; child’s case worker dependent on level of care, psychologists, psychiatrists, mentors, adoption services, intensive in-home therapy, supervised visitation, family training, and more.
